At Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation we will be delighted to conduct a naming service. There are three times when a name change is needed:
1. When a child (or grandchild) is born it is traditional to officially announce the name over the sacred Torah.
2. When a person converts they acquire a Hebrew name. This is done over the Torah. 3. There is an old custom that when someone is in mortal danger their name can be changed so as to throw off the indictment of death at the hand of the Angel of Death.
